The

Nick Akers Memorial Challenge

2nd Nick Akers Memorial Challenge

Nick Akers was an active member of Quintin RFC for more than 10 years which included captaining the Quintin 2nd XV. Through his genuine good nature and tireless support of the Club and all its members he forged many friendships and was respected and loved by many generations of Quintin faithful. Nick was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer less than 6 weeks ago, which proved to be untreatable and he sadly passed away on Wednesday the 17th June 2020 at the young age of 38. He will be missed by many. To remember Nick and raise funds for three charities nominated by Nick's family, Quintin RFC would like to undertake the 2nd Nick Akers Memorial Challenge.

Details of the Challenge

This summer, we intend to cover the 7626 miles from the Cape Town Stadium to our home ground of  Dukes Meadow, Chiswick, South West London, starting on Sunday, August 8th and concluding on Saturday, September 18th.

This is the shameful return journey from the unsuccessful Lions Tour of South Africa......

No teams have been decided upon yet but this is flexible and can be done when it is needed.

Like last year, we would love to see as many current and previous players take part by walking, running, cycling, swimming or rowing and logging those miles in the Strava App (Club name : Talentless Team for Akers Challenge).

If you cannot access Strava, send your daily mileage to Talentless Tim on WhatApp or text (07796695206).

A dedicated Nick Akers Memorial Challenge JustGiving page (link below) has been created to receive donations so please donate, share and encourage others to participate so we can raise as much as possible for these invaluable organisations and the work they do. If you can't take part in the exercise, you can still show your support by making a donation.

NOTICE: PLEASE SPLIT YOUR DONATIONS ACROSS ALL THREE CHARITIES AS WE CANNOT APPORTION THE FUNDS AT THE END DUE TO JUSTGIVING POLICY AND GIFTAID RULES.

All proceeds will be going to Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, and Epilepsy Society.
